Radicalization within a network of misogynist extremists: a case study of an incel forum (humanities and social sciences communications)

Incels (involuntary celibates) mobilize around their incapacity to establish romantic or sexual connections and are associated with violent crimes and online misogyny. Their cisgenderist and hetero-patriarchal gender viewpoints give rise to their ideology, which is conceived as sexist extremism. This study investigates communication patterns that indicate sexist extremism using social network analysis and radicalization research. Researchers discover that extremists create closed all-extremist communication triads by examining public posts on incels.is. The fact that these people seldom ever create new forum topics suggests that bonding social capital has a greater impact on extremism than bridging social capital.
