Navigating the margins of radicalization: intersectionality of gang affiliation and terror extremism (British Journal of Interdisciplinary Research)

Marginality, radicalization, extremism, gangs, and terrorism are defined in the current study. It emphasizes how crucial it is for community leaders, law enforcement, and legislators to comprehend this overlap. The combination of terrorist extremism and gang violence is a complex global security challenge that calls for careful consideration and creative solutions. The study highlights connections between urban gangs and terrorist organizations by examining their common experiences of marginalization and radicalization. It illustrates how individual and group dynamics enable the shift from gang culture to terrorism by using case studies to follow the paths from socioeconomic marginalization to violent extremism. With a focus on deradicalization and preventative tactics, institutional and community reactions are also evaluated. In the end, the study supports a comprehensive, coordinated strategy to reduce the overlap between terrorist and gang behavior.
