Climate Talks: Navigating the Interconnected Risks of Climate Change and Violent Extremism (unicri)

Together with the Permanent Missions of Germany and Mauritania, UNICRI organized an expert debate on the growing interdependence of the threats posed by violent extremism and climate change at the German House in New York on June 12, 2025. The conversation was a part of the German Mission’s continuing “Climate Talks” series. A useful, gender-responsive analytical tool created by UNICRI to assist national and local stakeholders in Mauritania in analyzing and addressing these interconnected hazards was presented at the event. Stakeholders were able to increase prevention and resilience in some of the most ecologically and socially vulnerable places of the globe by incorporating climate-security and violent extremism awareness into policies, plans, and initiatives thanks to the tool.
