CO25181 | Protecting Minors from Online Radicalisation in Indonesia (RSiS)

Young people who have become radicalized online without obvious offline signs, frequently as a result of trauma, rejection, and loneliness. In order to counter this threat, policy must be urgently reframed from one that is solely focused on security to one that is deeply anchored in the rights and protection of children. Indonesia can create responses that safeguard children, rehabilitate them, and increase community resilience against future extremism by adhering to UN criteria and utilizing cross-sector expertise from the fields of security, education, mental health, and social services. This is an ethical requirement rather than just a change in policy. Children have agency in addition to being defenseless and in need of protection. Although that same organization has the ability to lead individuals down radical avenues, it can also enable them to actively contribute to the development of solutions.
