First-of-its-kind study on women’s involvement in violent extremism was launched in Tajikistan (UN WOMEN)

The nation’s first gender-sensitive examination of women’s participation in violent extremism comes from a groundbreaking study that was started in Tajikistan. The study, which was carried out by UN Women and PO “Tahlil,” shows that women join extremist movements as active agents, passive followers, or victims, frequently under the influence of ideology, societal standards, or personal adversity. The study highlights resilience characteristics like education and institutional trust while identifying structural and gender-based causes including poverty, exclusion, and trauma using a combination of techniques in important regions. The results, which highlight the necessity of gender-responsive policies and concerted institutional action, are included into Tajikistan’s national counter-extremism strategy and the Women, Peace, and Security agenda.
